...On Hate Crimes And Art
I have not seen quite as much truth ingrained in an image as I do in this particular satirical depiction. It would appear that the law has made Christians exempt from being the victims of "Hate Crimes" -- while all others are consistently defended by the ACLU, NAACP, and various other "equal rights" organizations.
It is plausible to say, if an "artist" were to urinate on the Old Testament, or on a image of the Jewish genocide, they would be charged with committing a vicious hate crime; but we see crucifixes, images of Mary, images of Christ, being urinated on, defecated on, spit on -- and justified in the name of "art".
The idea of hate crimes is being used as a means to undermine the foundation of our constitution -- our freedom. One can only quote Voltaire in matters such as these:
"I disagree with your opinion, but I'll die defending your right to say it."
Our justice system should not be hypocritical - and the law should not justify so called "hate crimes" on account of it being considered "art".

Doesn't anyone read 1984 anymore? George Orwell had it right, spot on! Thanks "Little Sin" for clearing up this issue and setting everyone straight!
"Hate speech" is a clever method of repressing the most fundamental right we have in a democratic republic: freedom of POLITICAL speech. I am offended everyday by what I hear expressed about the West, or the Catholic Faith or the Italian race, but I put up with it because the ACLU instructed me for years that that was the price of retaining my own freedom to criticize and challenge the staus quo. what a con game that was!!! Before there was artistic freedom of speech there was political freedom of speech. Now select groups who are frightened to"dialogue" in the public fora use Hate speech to silence their opponents. In Canada, a preacher who asserts the Scriptural injunction against promiscuous sex or same-sex relations can go to jail and be fined. In the US there is big buiness in intimidating those who question the established dogmas of the Left---or Neo-con Right. A respected publisher (IHS Publications) almost lost his job recently because he published a book challenging the true motives behind the War in Iraq and the Israeli Lobby power in promoting it.
You can piss on an image of Christ but not on one of Abraham Foxman--who deserves it!

This is the most racist blog I have ever visited! First, people should not have a "right" to question the opinions of people of color or Jewish people who suffered so much in the past! They should only be allowed to say what is TRUE, like what the ACLU or NAACP think. These progressive groups need to help ignorant people to change their ideas if they are regressive. The way you talk, you think everyone has a right to say what ever they think!!! Italians are different because they are very often in the Mafia. Catholics? Let's not even start on them! what about the Inquistion? Some people are just more equal than others and should have special rights and consideration like Jews and blacks and gays.
I was at Woodstock and it was heaven because we all agreed and did not get into arguments because we KNEW we were cool!---even when we weren't stoned.
Hrame Mfume
Hurrah for Hrame!
As a transgendered, 26 year old black convert to the Unitarian Universalist Faith, I can tell you that the Bible, unlike the Qu'ran is a racist hate filled document. It should be burned, as should those who continue to insist on publishing it! Have you read the Qu'ran in the Arabic original? We have to change society, like Barak say. If it means restricting the free speech of some hatemongers, so be it! I wasn't at Woodstock, but I still believe in the Age of Aquarius--and in medicinal marijuana!
Juanita (Juan) Thompson.
Hrame,
Please inform me what you consider racist on my blog -- since I have seen no such thing as racism on it.
The term racism is often used without people understanding its proper definition. Dictionary.com lists Racism as:
–noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
If we take this into account, it is you who is in fact the racist one by proclaiming, "First, people should not have a "right" to question the opinions of people of color or Jewish people who suffered so much in the past!" You are lifting people of color and those of Semitic ancestry above others and placing them at a higher level -- rendering them unaccountable for their crimes because of their color or blood. That, Hrame, is blatant racism.
Your claim that Italians are often in the Mafia is not only utterly absurd, it is laced with discrimination and ignorance.
Woodstock was the great paragon of idiocy, weakness, decadence -- and for the most part was celebrated by a mob of intrinsically moronic people.

Juanita,
I wonder Juanita, why do you feel the need to address the fact that you are both black, and trans-gendered?
While I agree that the Bible is riddled with violent content -- I will not concede that the Koran does not share this same quality... perhaps even more.
As for Barack Obama, the only thing he needs to change is his choice to run for President.

Look you pompous ass, Axel Rose "want a be", with that bandana and shit eating grin. Yeah, "sweet child of mine" crap! You reek of skin head, aryan nation racism. Then you try to cover it up with all that pedantic gas about definitions and all. Racism is all around us brother! Your piece on the Jews, accusing this noble race of being chameleons and thus duplicitous shows your true colors. They are the chosen race, for God's sake. Wake up and smell the Gefilte fish!
How are we going to stop hate-mongers like you unless we have the government clamp down on your ramblings? You got to stop, man!!!!
There is no real right to free speech, only a right to "cool" speech! Abe Hoffman always use to tell me, " fight the power!" If everone thought the same way, and acted the same way, and looked the same way, there would be no need for war and armies and police. We are all equal under the skin. Learn to love diversity.
Hrame
I need to address the matter of my life journey to transgenderism beause of bigots like you! You know what, you are a big hypocrite. Here you are spouting off about agnosticism and atheism, then defending the Bible. what is up with that? why do you care if some christian bigots are attacked? You little white boys,-- and I choose my terms in their broadest anatomical significance,--- don't know what it is like to suffer prejudice and rejection from the world. we need to end systems of thought which depreciate ANY manner of life or condition.
Juanita.
PS:if you went on a date with me, I would rock your world!
Hrame,
I reek of skinhead, yet have long hair? How do the two coincide? Please enlighten me.
I try to cover up what exactly? Words have definitions -- if you're going to falsely accuse me of racism then provide evidence to support it -- based on its correct definition, not your interpretation of it.
My commentary on Jews being chameleons is not racist, it is an observation and if anything -- is an admission of their superiority.
The Jews are the chosen race? Ah, perhaps you are unaware of the fact that such a claim laid the foundation for all racism in Europe. It is the Jews with their religion that created racism in Europe.
I am in no way a hate monger. It is you are making absurd, hate filled claims and accusations.
There is no equality, and there is absolutely no chance that everyone can think, act, or behave the same way.

Juanita,
I have absolutely nothing against your choice to switch sexes. Nor do I have anything against the fact that you are black. To state these things without any reason to reeks of an insecure person who is conniving for attention.
I did not support the Bible. I have already made a blog entry condemning the Bible for it's violent passages. I have rejected Christianity(and it's Bible) at its foundation. My criticism was a criticism of the American Justice System and the so called Equal Rights Organizations -- who are in fact not organizations of equal rights, but organizations of certain groups rights. Perhaps you need a lesson in comprehension and moreover, reading.
Little white boy? You mean that as a compliment!
If you truly want to end systems of thought that depreciate life and its conditions -- you can start by removing the phrase "That's Racism" from your mouth -- and addressing the underlying significant points in my philosophy.
P.S: No.

I would like to bring a little rationality into this discussion. I think Hrame is correct, but phrased his points badly. Sin speaks, on the other hand, possibly unknowingly, from the experience of the dominant cultural group(s).
We need hate speech legislation because, as a matter of fact, some groups are, both historically and presently, at a disadvantage. The majority culture and power structure is basically white, Christian, and heterosexual. Minortities need special laws enacted to support and protect their position in the public fora. These laws and their enforcement make it clear that it is NOT acceptable to persecute, target and verbally or physically brutalize those who diviate from the majority soietal norms. It is true that in a perfect world, Christians and whites should have the same protections. But in fact, homosexuals, blacks, and Jews bear the onus of prejudice and vulnerability in our society.. Until a radical change occurs--which we all hope and pray for-- these forms of law will continue to secure the rights and freedom from intimidation of marginalized groups.
Jacob Steinberg
New Jersey Council for Minority Affairs.
Jacob Steinberg,
Once again, someone attempts to mask an utterly absurd position in highly intellectual language.
The laws already in place prevent anyone from being physically, psychologically, or verbally abused in this country. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to enact laws that give even more consideration to any particular group. This is a product or racism masked under the guise of preventing racism.
What next? The thought police? You would do well to read 1984.
